Most students do more then 1 sport per year at 400+ and add uniforms, sweats, shoes etc…and it starts costing a pretty penny. Also booster in music, parents teach “art”, kids bring paper and books, tissue for extra credit. So what’s next for parents to compensate?

Attn Torrance Residents!! Here is excerpt from a letter from Torrance School Board Member Terri Raigins. Take a look at what she has declared to be fact and can you figure out the percentages of change and decrease over a one year period. WOW!!! This is very shocking news she has provided. Before I go further I will let everyone know I have no children and I am strictly speaking as homeowner in Torrance being assessed on my Property Tax bill just like the rest of you. I don’t like Bond measures because who is managing the funds? Who is accountable to the voters and the homeowners. Now look at what I have extracted from Terri’s letter:

TUSD first eliminated 7 stipends per school in 4/2009, totaling approximately $64,000.
Then, there were further stipend reductions in 3/2010 for a further reduction of $250,000.
So, according to my information, the amount of the total reductions has been $314,000 for each of the past 5 years. These cuts in athletic personnel stipends were a portion of the over 20% cuts in CA State funding that TUSD experienced during those tough years.

Do you remember that the Democrat from the Torrance School Board was elected to the Assembly in 2012, a guy by the name of Al Muratucci who bearly beat out Craig Huey. Now we have David Hadley and he is up for reelection next year also. Now what do you think that the current Assemblyman might want to say to this. I note that there is a large variance respresenting a giant % difference between what was reduced in 2009, and 2010, and the Grand Canyon Total Sum of reduction was what percentage of the total budget line item for this allocation in the budget? Does anyone know? I think with all the revelations that have been forthcoming in this race that Torrance residents would be much better off with candidates who think and act like parents of children in the district and who recognize the needs to assure a good comprehensive and grounded education is given to each student in the TUSD, and one that parents can be most proud of as TUSD has always had a reputation for EXCELLENCE in the area in the South Bay area, and for that reason the enrollment has been in High Demand. I wonder if this standard is still the same today as it was then back some 20 plus years ago, and if it is not then candidates in this election should offer some positive thoughts about how this can be once again. I invite your comments.

As a parent of children in the district I am very disappointed by the level of education and the competency of our teachers. While we have some very good ones, the percentage of bordeline and below the mark increases every year with the tenure rule.
I would like to see candidates that give a voice to the students and their parents vs the union.
